Spring Blooms at Sandy Creek

Last Saturday’s Wildflower Walk at Sandy Creek was a wonderful celebration of spring in full bloom. Twelve participants joined local botanist Sue Ablitt for a guided wander through the bush, where the diversity of wildflowers did not disappoint.

Among the highlights were a spider orchid, waxlip orchids, creamy candles, murnong daisies, and cats claw grevillea. The group took time to admire the vibrant colours and delicate forms of the many native plants that make this area so special.

Adding some extra excitement, we also encountered a few of Sandy Creek’s reptilian residents — a copperhead snake and a couple of eastern water skinks basking in the sunshine. The morning concluded with a peaceful picnic lunch in the bush, the perfect way to end a beautiful day outdoors.

A big thank you to Lisa Heffernan and Sue Hare for generously sharing their photos from the day.

This event was hosted by the Delatite Landcare Group and supported by the Goulburn Broken CMA through funding from the Victorian Government’s Victorian Landcare Grants.
