Mansfield War on Weeds V Update
The Mansfield War on Weeds V program has continued to support local landholders in tackling invasive woody weeds across the shire.
So far, 29 landholders have taken up the subsidy, investing a combined $28,229 in weed control, with Up2Us contributing $7,274 in rebates and $2,325 still available for future participants. Together, these landholders manage 2,358 hectares, of which 212 hectares have been treated. The main weeds targeted include blackberry, followed by thistle, briar, and gorse.
Around 285 hours have been spent on control efforts, with 13 landholders undertaking their own spraying and 16 engaging contractors. Participants represent a balanced mix of the community, with a 50/50 split between primary producers and small acreage or absentee landholders. Notably, 65% of participants came from Mansfield, Bonnie Doon, and Tolmie, showing strong local engagement in the ongoing war on weeds. Funding is still available—contact Up2Us Landcare Alliance to find out how you can get involved.
