Collaborative Solutions for Blackberry and Gorse
Up2Us Landcare Alliance is excited to announce that we have been awarded $50,000 through the Victorian Government’s Partnerships Against Pests (PAP) program for our project: ‘Rooted in Resilience – Collaborative Solutions for Blackberry and Gorse’.
This project will support Landcare professionals across the Goulburn Broken Catchment in developing expertise and leadership in the management of two high-priority invasive weeds: Blackberry and Gorse. Both species are declared noxious weeds under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994 and pose significant threats to agriculture and native ecosystems.
Over the next two years, Up2Us will deliver a strategic, professional development program. Landcare staff across the Goulburn-Broken Catchment will take part in workshops, mentoring, and facilitated knowledge-sharing sessions to build technical skills, leadership capacity, and innovative approaches to weed management. Stage Two will see these professionals applying their training in locally tailored, nature-led workshops for landholders, ensuring best-practice control methods are implemented on the ground.
By strengthening the capability of Landcare staff across the region, this project aims to create a sustainable, coordinated approach to Blackberry and Gorse management, ensuring long-term outcomes for the catchment’s landscapes, biodiversity, and agricultural productivity.
