Delatite Landcare Group
About
The Delatite Landcare Group (DLG) was established in 1993 with an initial goal to create tree corridors across farmland. This vision soon expanded to include the revegetation of eroded creeks and gullies, helping to restore and protect the health of our local landscapes.
The group runs a variety of field days and community projects focused on sustainable land management. Past events have included workshops on farm dams and shelterbelts, as well as popular birdwatching sessions that help participants learn to identify local bird species and enjoy time in nature with like-minded people. A highlight of the DLG calendar is the annual Wildflower Walk, led by DLG member Sue Ablitt from North East Ecology, who shares her extensive knowledge of local native flora.
DLG welcomes both permanent and part-time residents from across the Mansfield Shire, particularly those living within the Delatite River catchment. Our members work collaboratively with the Mansfield Shire Council, Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, and Parks Victoria to achieve practical, on-ground environmental outcomes.
Strategic Plan
The DLG’s strategic plan is currently focusing on the following activities over the next five years.
1. Support responsible management of our natural environment through both sustainable agriculture and protection of wildlife and local bushlands and waterways.
2. Encourage an understanding of biodiversity and its significance for the health of bush environments and farmland productivity.
3. Build effectiveness of programs and publications (for example, updating the Local Plants Guide) and nurture relationships through communications, mentoring and events.
Mission
Respecting, learning about, enjoying and sustainably managing our natural environment
