Delatite Landcare Group – watch for native orchids.

Although most people are aware of our district’s wonderful spring wildflowers, autumn can also be a rewarding time for finding some amazing native orchids in flower. Following good early autumn rains this year, Parson’s Bands (Eriochilus cucculatus) have been fairly abundant in the Boorolite hills, we’ve also seen a couple of the somewhat-rarer blushing tiny greenhoods (Pterostylis rubescens). Both of these have diminutive flowers around 10-12mm high on about a 60-70 mm tall stem. Delicate but beautiful, worth protecting.
