Women in Ag: Animal Health in Dry Times
We kicked off our Women in Ag workshop series on the first day of spring with sunshine and a fantastic turnout of local women. The day was full of learning, connection, and practical skills to support livestock health during challenging conditions.
Our first stop was in the cattle yards, where Anna Manning guided us through low-stress livestock handling techniques, animal conditioning, and vaccination practices. It was a hands-on opportunity to build confidence and refine skills essential for everyday animal care.
The group then travelled to a second property for an in-depth session on animal nutrition, particularly during dry times. Anna shared valuable insights into feed management, while also covering essential tips for lambing and calving.
We are grateful to Anna Manning for sharing her expertise, to Alison Desmond from Agriculture Victoria for her contributions on the day, and to Rachel Parsons for generously hosting us on her property.
It was a wonderful way to welcome spring – with sunshine, shared knowledge, and the support of an inspiring group of women.
This workshop was delivered as part of the Regional Drought Resilience Planning program, funded by the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund and the Victorian Government.
