Spring Blossoms at Earth Kinder

Spring has well and truly arrived, bringing with it a burst of colour at Mullum Wetlands and around Earth Kinder. During Term 3, Up2Us joined the 4-year-old kinder groups to explore the beauty of native plants in bloom.

Children were encouraged to slow down and take a closer look at the blossoms, comparing the differences and similarities between plants and learning about the importance of plant diversity for wildlife. Wattles were a particular focus, with students noticing the subtle but important differences between species.

After sharing the story The Bush Birds, we gathered a collection of native flowering shrubs and trees from the landscape and invited the children to create their own artworks. With crayons and paper in hand, the group sketched, touched, and smelt the plants, connecting with them in a hands-on way.

The session concluded with a bush gallery, where the children proudly displayed their drawings before heading off for some well-earned free play. Experiences like these help nurture curiosity and foster a deep appreciation for the natural world.
