Permaculture: More Than Just Growing Food
When you hear the word permaculture, you might think of vegetable gardens, composting or growing your own food. But permaculture is about much more than that. At its heart, it’s a way of thinking about how we design and care for our gardens, properties and landscapes so they work with nature rather than against it.
The 12 principles of permaculture offer practical ways to look at the spaces around us — from making better use of water and resources to building healthy soils, reducing waste and creating more resilient and productive landscapes.
Importantly, you don’t need to be an experienced gardener or have a large property to put permaculture principles into practice. They can be applied at all scales, whether you’re tending a backyard, managing a rural property or simply looking for ways to make your garden more sustainable.
At our upcoming workshop, Introduction to the 12 Principles of Permaculture, Kylie Smith from Compounded Pastures will share practical examples from seven years of planning and developing her own farm. Kylie will introduce the 12 principles and explore how they can be applied in everyday situations, giving participants ideas they can take home and put into practice.
Whether you're new to permaculture or simply looking for fresh ideas, this one-hour workshop is a chance to discover a different way of thinking about the places we live and grow.
Join us at Bloom@Doon on Saturday 29 August, 10am–11am.
The workshop is just $5 per person, with bookings essential. Come along, learn something new and discover how a few simple principles could change the way you approach your garden or property.
