Community Comes Together for Nest Box Paint & Repair Workshop

Last Wednesday morning, the Mansfield Botanic Garden was buzzing with activity as community members came together for our Nest Box Paint and Repair Workshop. It was heartening to see so many families, volunteers and local supporters roll up their sleeves to help prepare vital habitat for our native wildlife.

Over the course of the morning, participants painted and repaired more than 20 nest boxes, turning flat-packed timber into finished homes ready for installation. The project reflects a wonderful collaboration across the community, with Mansfield Men’s Shed flat-packing the boxes, Mansfield Primary School Grade 5 students assembling them, and volunteers completing the final stage at the workshop.

The nest boxes are designed to support a range of native species, including wood ducks, owls, sugar gliders, rosellas, parrots and possums. Some of these boxes will be installed in bushfire-affected areas, where they will play an important role in helping wildlife recover by providing safe shelter while natural hollows regenerate.

Events like this highlight the power of community-led action and the value of hands-on environmental stewardship. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took part and contributed their time and energy.

This project is supported by Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, through funding from the Victorian Government’s Victorian Landcare Grants program.
