Nocturnal Neighbours - A Cool Night Out at Tolmie

On Saturday evening, community members gathered at the Tolmie Recreation Reserve for our second Nocturnal Neighbours spotlighting event. Although arboreal mammal activity was low on this occasion, we were treated to a couple of sightings of brushtail possums – and the evening was a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature and one another.

The cooler conditions may have kept some wildlife tucked away for the night, but the enthusiasm from participants certainly warmed the evening. It was lovely to see new and familiar faces come together to learn about and celebrate the nocturnal species that share our landscapes.

We’re excited to announce that our next spotlighting event will be held on Saturday, July 5. The location is still being finalised, but we’ll share the details soon.

These events are part of our broader project focusing on hollow-bearing fauna in the Mansfield Shire, supported by the 2025 Bendigo Bank – Community Bank Mansfield & District ‘Community Impact Program’. They're designed to increase awareness of the importance of habitat hollows, help identify where our nocturnal wildlife are living, and strengthen community connection to local biodiversity.

So grab your torch, dress warm, and come join us again next month to see what the night reveals!
