Feeding Livestock in Dry Times with Lisa Warn

On Saturday, local landholders gathered in the paddock with agricultural consultant Lisa Warn to explore strategies for feeding livestock in dry conditions. Lisa, who specialises in pasture agronomy and livestock production, guided the group through a hands-on session focused on understanding pasture quality and assessing available feed.

The workshop began with a pasture assessment, helping participants evaluate how much feed was on hand and the nutritional quality of their pastures. This was followed by a practical presentation on tools and techniques to determine feed availability over time and identify when supplementary feed might be required.

Participants walked away with valuable knowledge and practical tools to better understand livestock requirements, plan feed budgets, and prepare for dry periods. The session also covered strategies for managing the feeding of different livestock classes, enabling farmers to make informed decisions and maintain animal health during challenging conditions.

This workshop was delivered as part of the Regional Drought Resilience Planning program, funded by the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund and the Victorian Government.
