Gecko Clan Landcare Network’s Landcare Extension Training

Gecko Clan is pleased to again be delivering Landcare Extension training with Up2Us Landcare Mansfield.

The Gecko Clan program will continue to focus on how innovative farmers and land managers are enhancing both productivity and biodiversity values of their properties.  This week is Landcare with an agricultural focus.  Australian farmers manage over 50% of Australia land and two-thirds of Australia’s native vegetation.  If you’ve never had the opportunity to hear and see directly how farmers engage with Landcare, then this is the week for you.

Over a one week period participants will visit a range of farming enterprises in North-East Victoria.  Highlights of the Gecko Clan program include:

  • Welcome to Country and cultural walk at Mokoan/Winton wetlands with Yorta Yorta cultural educator Nikki James

  • Grassfed beef, livestock handling and building natural capital at Wooleen Beef with JP Murphy

  • Shelter belts, farm planning and biodiversity with Agriculture Victoria

  • Assessing the natural capital and identifying opportunities for enhancement

  • Enhancing farm dams and understanding farm water budgets

  • Sheep, cropping and extreme climate events with Doug James, Bowya

  • Getting to know the Gecko Clan network.  Dinner with Landcare members from across the Gecko Clan network

  • Future careers in agriculture and NRM. Networking dinner with professionals and young farmers

  • Accommodation at Benalla Tourist Park (individual rooms and swimming pool)

  • Accessible via public transport to Benalla train station (taxi available in Benalla)

When: Monday 1 February 2027 (arrive at midday) to Friday 5 February 2027

Where: Based out of Benalla in north-east Victoria.  All travel during the week will be by bus.

What’s included: 5 days of training in Landcare Extension.Food and accommodation for the week.  Accommodation in individual rooms in 2 room cabins.  All transport during week is included.

What’s not included: Travel to and from Benalla.

Expressions of Interest Now Open

Expressions of Interest (EOIs) are now open for this training opportunity. Submitting an EOI does not guarantee a place, as places are limited. EOIs will be assessed as they are received against the program's eligibility and selection criteria, so we encourage you to apply early. Priority may be given to applicants who have not previously participated in Scaling Success training. A short phone conversation may be required to confirm eligibility and suitability. Once available places have been filled, the EOI process may close and no further applications or interviews will be undertaken. EOIs will close on October 31 2026.
